Finley Quaye Biography
Finley Quaye - not just another so-and-so
Finley Quaye, best known for his 1997 hit “Even After All”, is more than just
another name on past pop charts. The award-winning multi-instrumentalist is
best known for blending reggae and pop to suit the tastes of millions.
Of musical and African roots, Finley is the son of Jazz musician, Cab Kaye, the
brother of noted guitarist, Caleb Quaye, and brother of jazz musician, Terri
Quaye. His London born father’s full name was Nii Lante Augustus Kwamlah Quaye
and he was a Chief of the GA tribe centralized in Jamestown, Accra.
Finley’s mother, who died of a drug overdose when he was ten, was also in the
habit of taking the young boy to Ronnie Scott's jazz club. There he saw rare
performances of American jazz musicians like Buddy Rich touring Europe. He met
Lionel Hampton in Edinburgh. Duke Ellington had a marked impact on Finley's
life and his musical expression.
After a solo record deal with Polydor Records 1994, Finley worked with
Epic/Sony in 1996. His reputation was established by Maverick A Strike, an
“adventurous but accessible” album released in September 1997. The album is now
multi-platinum (in international parlance this means between 1 million and ten
million units sold). ‘Maverick A Strike’ recalls the cheer of Marley with
mid-nineties bohemian Britain base that combines to please pop lovers. Still in
1997, he reached the UK Top 20 twice with his definitive hit "Even After
All" and "Sunday Shining". The year’s success saw Finley receive
a Brit Award for Best Male Artist in '98 (British Phonographic Industry's
annual pop music awards).
The albums ‘Vanguard’ (2000) and ‘Much More Than Much Love’ (2004) followed,
both released on Epic. ‘The Best Of The Epic Years’ was released on Sony/BMG
(2009), a title that may make reference to Quaye’s label hopping. The ‘Pound
for Pound' EP was released digitally during the summer of 2009. Finley has also
sampled Beth Orton’s vocals in ‘Dice’, a song recorded by William Orbit. The
song was used in an episode American Fox network TV Series "The OC".
Farryl Purkiss Biography
South African singer-songwriter is proof that surfer boys are more balanced. A
successful all-rounder, Farryl Purkiss has fans across the world. His
self released EP in 2005 led to him signing with 2Feet Music shortly after.
Following that, he performed abroad frequently in the lead-up to the release of
his full length debut album, Farryl Purkiss (South African release, 2007).
Local chart success and award nominations followed. He has since spent most of
his time touring internationally. He most recently released “Fruitbats &
Crows” (2009).
Farryl is widely loved across the world. In the past three years, he has
toured Australia three times, Europe, USA and South Africa. He’s had
radio success in many territories including being playlisted in Japan, Tokyo,
Germany and Australia with a #1 in France with “La-Di-Da”. Locally,
Pukiss charted on 5FM’s Top 40 with “Better days”, and peaking at #3 with
“Ducking and Diving” reached an audience of 1,4 million listeners.
Farryl ‘s music has 5 movie placements and 3 sync’s for TV advertising
campaigns. His songs have been used in campaigns by Nissan (Greece), Audi (UK),
MTN (South Africa) as well as in the international film “Adopted” (featuring
Pauly Shore). In 2007 he was voted the most popular musician by Heat Magazine
(South Africa) and was nominated for Best Adult Contemporary Album at the South
African Music Awards (SAMA) in 2006. In addition the man with the enigmatic
smile is also a brand ambassador for Woolworths.
Lindiwe Suttle
Lindiwe Suttle lives up to all her names. Lindiwe means “the one we’ve been
waiting for” and her last name links her to her celebrity mother, talk show
host Felicia Mabuza Suttle. With a refined and flexible jazz voice and
fine looks, she is a breath of fresh air. Petite but powerful, Lindiwe is a
consummate performer as well as a broadcast presenter. Her local work with Rus
Nerwhich And The Collective Imagination , a jazz/funk/soul/hip-hop ensemble
lead to the band opening for Mos Def at the Cape Town International Jazz
Festival 2009. With a performance portfolio of the US, Europe and South Africa
, her solo and collaborative shows are theatrical and graceful. Visually as
well as aurally appealing, her performances borrow from her talent as well as
her professional experience styling the likes of Beyonce Knowles, Cynthia Nixon
and Ciara.
Her single "Sweet like Butta" was released in January 2010 and her
debut album, The One We’ve Been Waiting For, is expected in June 2010.
The media seems to share our enthusiasm :
“Let us be the first to tell you that this girl can sing. From belting
out the big notes to crooning the little ones.’ - GQ magazine
“Suttle has a powerful voice with a soft quality added to it...Watch out
for her as she climbs the ladder in the SA music industry” - Cosmo
magazine..
DJ Fletcher

collaborative projects over the years, namely Krushed & Sorted, Dj Dope,
